Platform for Politicians

Microsoft is producing a social media platform centered around the needs of politicians, called TownHall. It is intended to build engagement and participation by the fans. Like other social media, this will be used to collect feedback, the backend able to run reports and narrow the search on discussions. Will this even be used or waste of effort on Microsoft's part?
