It used to be that Palm was the go-to name for PDA and later smartphones. Likewise, HP has made a few very useful but mostly cheap PDAs and smartphones. The problem is that nobody wants a PDA anymore. Even business users want more out of their phone. They want a versatile phone which also does everything that PDAs did. Palm even tried to re-invent themselves with WebOS and a new line of app and (non-business) customer-oriented phones. But they fail to make the sales and grow to the same prestige they once had. I believe Palm made a smart move cashing out before they failed completely. HP might now have a slim chance to increase their smarphone market share.
