Where Can I Go?
Seriously? Did i hear this right... twitter is now going to have advertisements during search results? Why must there be advertisements where ever I go? I get that twitter must make money, but it is absolutely obnoxious to see ads any given second on the internet. I just wish there was a specific place advertisements can go on a site like twitter; you know, like a link at the top of the page next to the sign-out link. Or maybe down at the bottom next to the copyright. Companies are already using social media to get their products across and for companies such as Dell and Microsoft and many many more, its working well. Its just like a thorn in my foot to see people try to squeeze an advertisement where ever they can. That's my little rant as a user; as a business I would do the same thing as twitter and I'll leave it at that.

I know advertisements can be a pain, but to be fair, the companies need to fund themselves somehow. Server space, processing power, software engineers do not come free, right? Then it seems logical to introduce ads given that enough people continue using the free service. The only other option is to make people pay a subscription fee for using the service, but would people really pay for that? Would you pay to use Facebook or Twitter?
ReplyDeleteBut wait, there's more:
ReplyDeleteAn upcoming trend might be the use of the familiar CAPTCHA (you know that squiggly text you have to enter when you have to prove you're a human) to advertise to you. So say that you're watching Family Guy on Hulu and an advertisement comes on for Nike. The show won't come back on until you enter something Nike asks of you like "just do it" or "i'm a consumer drone."
Now you wouldn't even be able to skip or ignore commercials; they will become mandatory. :(
