5 Years of YouTube

http://www.youtube.com/user/FiveYear

So, I just discovered this channel a few minutes ago. It basically shows a small portion of the big youtube celebrities in the past five years and their story. And one of the recurring themes that I saw about each video was how they put a random video up not expecting many views but then later on saw that they were on the first few pages of youtube.

Watching those videos make me feel sort of nostalgic. Not because of the youtube personalities, but because of how the youtube layout changed for more profit. I remember when it was arranged by "most viewed today" by default. Now it is "Most Popular." What does that even mean? Yeah, of course I could manually go filter the videos I want, but it's such a huge hassle. Half of the videos on the first page are from big companies, rarely do I ever see an independent video by myself, I would have to go through blogs and social media sites for such things.

I feel this is what is happening to Google's search site now.

I hope 5 years from now, I don't start reminiscing about the old Google.
